Job Description:
GROUNDS ASSISTANTSalary: $27,030 - $27,850
AnnuallyPurpose:Maintain an appealing appearance of the campus
grounds.Major ResponsibilitiesThe removal of snow, ice and debris
from all parking lots, sidewalks, and roads.Mow lawns, trim
shrubbery and trees, cut weeds, and maintain landscaping.Service
and repair all equipment used in the ground maintenance.Keep a
valid pesticide license so chemicals can be used when needed.Keep a
valid forklift operator license.Supervise subordinates for ground
maintenance.Moving of equipment to and from storage.Maintain the
yard and other exterior lighting.Act as an assistant supervisor in
the absence of the Supervisor of Grounds.To be available to work
overtime and off schedule hours when necessary.Utilize Sandburg
vehicles/trailer to pick-up flat metal stock and deliver scrap
metal coupons to the steel supplier on a weekly or as needed basis.
Also pick-up donated pipe from area suppliers as needed.Service
fleet vehicles.Other duties as assigned. Coordinates Painting of
curbing. Installation and maintenance of traffic control signs.
Placement of and repair of roadside informational signs. Assists
With Movement of furniture and equipment. Set up of equipment for
special functions. Procurement and disposal of welding metal for
the industrial division. Maintenance of exhaust fans. Replacement
of fluorescent lamps and ballast. Furniture and equipment repairs.
Assessment of grounds services Risk Management and Loss Prevention
ActivitiesActively participate in and carry out activities in
support of the college's Risk Management Program in a capacity
appropriate to this position.Monitor conditions, events, and
circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential
torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, then
communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or Risk
Management Committee.Maintain a working knowledge of the college s
emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems;
including internal/external call boxes.Carry an operational
radio/walkie-talkie at all times.Minimum Necessary Skills,
Experience, and Educational BackgroundMinimum Necessary Skills,
Experience and Educational BackgroundHigh School diploma or GED
required.Valid driver s license.Good working knowledge of
electrical and mechanical skills.Illinois pesticide operator s
license is required within the first year of employment.Forklift
operator s license is preferred.Should be experienced in the use of
power equipment such as tractors, mowers, chain saws, and snow
removal equipment.Should be experienced in the use of power hand
tools.Should be experienced in supervision of several
subordinates.The ability to communicate successfully with clients
of all ages, socio-economic status, sex, or race.Spanish or French
proficiency preferred.Physical Requirements to Perform Job
